Sports Volunteer of the Year
Special attention on the sports election evening was paid to the sports volunteers. Two volunteers were awarded as sports volunteer of the year. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. Both Fred Habold from Victoria and Ineke Breijer from SC 't Gooi received the 'Sheep with the five legs' - the Rinus Schaap Prize. Fred Habold has been a member of Victoria for 70 years. At the age of 86, he is still responsible for the competition secretariat and is present at the club every Saturday from morning until late at night. Ineke Breijer has been a member of 't Gooi since 1987 and has been a volunteer in the kitchen since 1999.
Election night
The election evening was kicked off by presenter Robbert Meeder. He opened the evening with an interview with Karin van Hunnik, Sports Councilor. The members of the jury then took turns announcing the winners per category.
Van Hunnik: “It is a treat every year to experience these sports elections. As far as I'm concerned, it's really a highlight on the Hilversum sports agenda. It is fantastic to see what athletes and teams are willing to do to perform and how much they will have achieved by 2023. They deserve to be in the spotlight. I hope that through each other's stories they will remain extra motivated to achieve great sporting performances in 2024.”
Jury
At the end of last year, the municipality asked sports clubs and gyms to nominate candidates for the 2023 Hilversum sports election. The municipality collected all applications and presented them to an expert jury. The jury, consisting of Tobias Westerneng (councillor), Tim Beuckens (Hilversum Hurricanes), Ruben Assmann (ambassador Youth Fund Sports & Culture and Young People at a Healthy Weight) and Lars Bremekamp (director Gooise Praktijkschool), has selected nominations from the applications and the final selection of the winners is determined.
