Counterfeit goods, cannabis cultivation products and ghost vehicle found during inspection

On March 21, 2024, the Administrative Intervention Team (BIT) Gooi en Vechtstreek carried out comprehensive checks of various storage locations on behalf of the municipality of Hilversum, together with the police and customs. 15 storage boxes were opened and counterfeit goods, products for cannabis cultivation, medication, a ghost vehicle and various goods used for burglaries were found.

The inspection lasted from 10.30:16.15 am to 15:XNUMX pm. During the inspection, trained dogs were used to detect hazardous substances and fireworks. With the help of the dogs, suspicious boxes were marked and subsequently subjected to further inspection. A total of XNUMX storage boxes have been opened. 

The following criminal offenses were found: counterfeit goods, products for professional cannabis cultivation, medication, a ghost vehicle and various goods that could be used for burglaries. In addition, the police checked 1 person who tried to get into his storage box during the check. The police then found various types of hard drugs in his car, and the man also had a large amount of cash with him. The man has been arrested and all found property has been seized. The police are further investigating the criminal offenses.

“We see throughout the Netherlands that storage locations are used for illegal activities or the storage of dangerous objects or substances,” explains Mayor Gerhard van den Top. “That is why we decided to also investigate this in Hilversum. And with results. That is why such integrated checks and a joint approach are of great importance. In this way we reduce illegal and undesirable activities, so that we can guarantee the safety of other tenants, visitors and the environment.”

Since 2022, all Gooise municipalities have joined forces in a joint Administrative Intervention Team (BIT), with which they increase their effectiveness and expertise in the fight against undermining activities. In this way they work together to further improve safety in the region.
