You have put your house up for sale and you are already living in your new home. Or you own a building and it is empty. Then you are allowed to rent it out temporarily as living space. You need a permit for this. This costs € 153,90.
What do you need to know
In Vacancy Act read all the conditions for renting out your home.
Rent out temporarily
- Your vacant home is for sale
- Your vacant rental home is on the list for demolition or renovation
- You want to offer accommodation in an empty building, for example in an office or school
- You may not rent out more than 2 homes or living spaces at the same time
- There are no residents registered in the municipal basic administration
Permit
- With a house that is for sale you will receive a permit for a maximum of 5 years. You cannot extend the permit for renting out a property that is for sale. If the permit has expired, you must wait 5 years before you can apply for a new permit
- For a demolition or renovation house you will receive a permit for 2 years. You can then renew this permit annually for a maximum of 7 years
- At an office or school that you temporarily use as living space, you will receive a permit for a maximum of 10 years
Rental contract conditions
- The tenant has no rent protection
- The rental agreement is valid for at least 6 months
- The tenant has a notice period of 1 month
- The landlord has a notice period of at least 3 months
- The rental agreement automatically ends when the permit has expired
