On MijnOverheid.nl, you can see how many people are registered at your address. Is someone registered at your address who does not (or no longer) live there? Or does someone have a mailing address at your address and are you unable to reach that person? Then you can request an address investigation. We will then find out where this person lives.
What do you need to know
- You can request an address investigation as the owner, tenant or co-occupant of the house (with DigiD)
- A company or organization can also request an address search (with eHerkenning)
- We try to complete an address investigation within 12 weeks. This does not always work. If little information about the person is known, the investigation may take longer
What do you have to do
- You fill out the online form with DigiD of with eHerkenning
- Or you come to the Municipal Office. You make for this an appointment† You bring a valid ID with you
It is important that you provide as much information as possible about the person we are going to investigate:
- Possible new address
- Phone number
- Email address
- Social media accounts
- Information about the employer and/or family
A home visit by the municipality may be part of the investigation.
Letter following investigation
You will receive a letter when the investigation is complete. We are not permitted to provide you with information about the person investigated. This is due to privacy concerns.
Registration is legally required.
Everyone is legally obliged to inform the municipality where they live. This is called registration. This allows the municipality and other government agencies to communicate with their residents. If someone is registered at your address while they do not live there, this can have financial consequences. For example, when applying for benefits.
