You want to install slot machines in your catering business. You need a permit to operate gambling machines.
What do you need to know
There are 2 types of slot machines:
- Machines of skill, such as pinball machines. The player influences the outcome of the game through insight or skill. You can only win extended play time or free games with this
- Gaming machines, such as slot machines. The player has no influence on the outcome of the game. You can win prizes with this
Licensed or not
- You do not need a permit for skill machines
- You need a presence permit for slot machines
Terms & conditions
- You will only receive a presence permit if you have a high-threshold catering establishment. High threshold means:
- You have a operating license catering
- You have an Alcohol Act permit for a catering business
- Your hospitality business is a café or restaurant. There are no other activities that attract an independent flow of visitors, such as dancing or billiards
- Your catering company is mainly aimed at visitors aged 18 and older
- A presence permit is valid for 4 calendar years. The current period runs from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025. If you apply for a presence permit during this period, you will only pay for the remainder of the period
- You may place 1 or 2 slot machines. More slot machines are not allowed
- You adhere to the Conditions for the presence permit of the Gaming Authority
Slot machine hall
It is not possible to start a slot machine hall in Hilversum.

- A presence permit costs € 90,50 per 12 months (that is € 362,00 for 4 calendar years)
