What do you need to know

Sirens

Every 1st Monday of the month, the municipality tests whether the siren for disasters is still working at exactly noon. The siren will then sound consecutively for 12.00 minute and 1 seconds. If the siren sounds more often in succession, there is a big alarm. It is also possible that sound trucks from the police or fire brigade drive through the streets. Listen carefully to what they say and do what they ask you to do. Further:

• Close doors and windows and turn off the air conditioning if you have it. Stay inside!
• If you are not at home, enter a nearby building
• Let others into your house and give help to neighbors in the street who need it
• Turn on the radio or TV on broadcaster NH, visit NH's website or check out the websites of Crisis.nl of Gooi and Vechtstreek safety region. This way you will hear what is going on and what you need to do

Radio and television

• Broadcasting NH is the official disaster channel in the region. On this channel you can hear and see what is going on and what you need to do
• In a nationwide disaster, the Dutch Public Broadcasting the national disaster channel

NL-Alert

• NL-Alert is a government alarm device for the mobile phone in life and health-threatening situations, such as a major fire, terrorist attack or unexpected storms
• You will receive a text message on your phone from the government. This message tells you what's going on and what you need to do
• You don't have to sign up. Mobile phones in the Netherlands automatically receive an NL-Alert
• A test message is sent twice a year. If you don't get it, report it to your mobile phone supplier

• Crisis.nl is a website of the Ministry of Security and Justice. Here you will find important news in case of disasters or emergencies

Emergency
