Marriage or registered partnership

You must report an intended marriage (previous banns on marriage) or registered partnership to the municipality where you are getting married. You can get married at municipal wedding locations or a place of your choice.

What do you need to know

  • You report your intended marriage or registered partnership to the municipality where you are getting married
  • When you make the notification, you can choose a date on which you will get married.
  • If you are going to get married or register your partnership in Hilversum, you must notify us at least 14 days in advance
  • You can make the notification no earlier than 1 year before the wedding or partnership date
  • The notification is valid for 1 year. Then report it again
  • Your personal data (of yourself, parents, divorce and/or partnerships) must be correct in the Personal Records Database (BRP). Check this with your DigiD on myoverheid.nlIf your details are incorrect or you are missing information, please first check the page foreign documents
  • You can see the availability of the locations via the 'Report marriage or partnership (DigiD)' button. You don't have to NOT ALLOWED log in with DigiD

In these situations additional information is likely to be needed:

  • You were born abroad
  • You do not have Dutch nationality
  • You have lived abroad or are living there now
  • Your previous marriage ended abroad

Type of ceremony

The ceremony is the official part of your marriage or partnership registration.

Free

  • Tuesday morning at 9.00 am and at 9.30 am at the City Office
  • The wedding registrar does not give a speech and has no contact with you beforehand
  • The ceremony lasts a maximum of 10 minutes
  • There is room for a maximum of 10 people including the bridal couple or partners.
  • Can't play music
  • Without a wedding/partnership booklet. This costs € 25,00

Simple

  • Monday between 11.00 a.m. and 13.00 p.m. at the City Office
  • There is room for a maximum of 10 people including bridal couple or partners
  • The ceremony lasts a maximum of 15 minutes
  • Can't play music
  • With a wedding / partnership booklet

Extensive

  • The whole week at the time you want, in consultation with the wedding location and the wedding official
  • Create a self-chosen location is possible ('free' location)
  • The wedding official will give a speech and will contact you about 2 weeks in advance
  • The ceremony lasts a maximum of 45 minutes
  • Playing music is possible
  • With a wedding / partnership booklet

What do you have to do

Before Notifying

  • If you were born abroad or do not have Dutch nationality, please first check the page foreign documents
  • Choose your type of ceremony (free, simple, extended). You can view the locations via the button at the top of the page
  • Choose a date, wedding location and start time for the ceremony. The wedding official starts exactly at the indicated time
  • Choose your witnesses. That can be 2, 3 or 4 witnesses (in total). Anyone over the age of 18 may be a witness. If you do not have any witnesses yourself, you can use witnesses from the municipality for a fee
  • Choose your wedding officiant (this is not possible with a free or simple ceremony)
  • Choose which one last name you want to use

Needed at the notification

  • You and your partner's DigiD login details
  • Copy of proof of identity for you and your partner
  • Copy of the witnesses' ID
  • If you are under supervision (curatee), permission is required from the curator or subdistrict court judge
  • Wedding location contract (if you get married somewhere other than the Town Hall or City Office)
  • You pay the costs for the ceremony in the online application
  • You pay the extra costs for the wedding venue (if you get married somewhere other than the Town Hall or City Office) to the wedding venue.
