Help for children with stress, sadness or problems

Children and young people sometimes feel unwell. They worry, feel depressed, angry, rebellious, or sad. For example, about a divorce or problems at home or at school. They often manage to cope with these problems on their own or with the help of friends, parents, relatives, or teachers.

What can you do

When children are stressed, sad, or struggling, it's important to keep talking to them. This helps them feel safe. Let them express their feelings and listen carefully. Try to maintain regular appointments and a daily routine, such as school attendance and hobbies. This gives them stability. Family and friends can also help.

Support

Sometimes it's difficult to help a child with problems or difficult feelings. Then it's good to ask for help.

Children's phone

  • De Children's phone is there for children and young people between the ages of 8 and 18 who find it exciting to share their concerns or story with someone in their environment
  • Children and young people can call or chat safely and anonymously with someone who is listening via the Child Helpline
  • The Child Helpline is available free of charge every day on telephone number 0800 0432 or via chat between 11:00 am and 9:00 pm.

  • You make an appointment with your GP

Join Us

Join Us is for young people and young adults aged 12 to 30 who want to give their social lives a boost. Sometimes young people feel lonely, want to meet new people, or are looking for a sense of belonging after moving. Fun activities are organized within the (online) group, and work is done on social skills. Facilitators provide support in this process.
