Sheltered work

People with a work disability sometimes need extra guidance, or an adjustment of their workplace. They can work, but not with every employer. It is important that the employer can provide guidance on the work floor.

Sheltered work can be anything, at different levels. Think of packing things, cleaning or technical work. Sheltered work can also be outside. For example, mowing the lawn or keeping the neighbourhood tidy. Municipalities must offer these people a paid job in an adapted environment. This is called sheltered work.

People with a Sheltered Advice are not included in the target group register.

Other possibilities

Social Employment Act

Before the regulation on sheltered employment was included in the Participation Act, there was the Sheltered Employment Act (Wet sheltered employment) for people with an occupational disability (WSW). Since 1 January 2015, new people can no longer join the WSW. People who were already in the WSW in 2014 can still be in it now. If you have any questions about this, please contact your employer.
