Rights and obligations in social assistance

You receive social assistance benefit or you have applied for it. Then you have certain rights. Those are things you get. But you also have obligations. Those are things you have to do according to the rules.

If you have a very low income, you can get financial help from the municipality. This is called a social assistance benefit. You are then entitled to money so that your income rises to the social assistance standard that applies to you† The municipality can also help you look for a job.

Social assistance obligations

If you receive assistance, you duties† That means you have to follow the rules and do certain things, such as:

  • Labor obligation
  • Reintegration obligation
  • Obligation to perform in return
  • Duty to cooperate
  • Obligation to identify
  • Obligation to provide information
  • Language requirement
  • Holiday reporting obligation (Notify changes in benefits or holidays)

Fine

If you don't follow the rules, there will be consequences. The municipality can then fine you or impose a measure. A measure means that you will receive 1 or more months less or no money. The municipality determines how high the fine is or how much less social assistance you receive. That depends on your situation.
