Special wellfare

Due to a special situation, you have necessary costs that you cannot afford. These costs cannot be reimbursed through insurance or any other arrangement. Then you can apply for special assistance. You do not need to have social assistance benefit for this. A special social assistance benefit is a loan or a gift.

What do you need to know

Terms & conditions

  • The costs are really necessary. An expert must be able to determine this
  • You are really going to incur the costs. So you need a receipt or invoice. This can also be a proforma note. That is a temporary invoice that you do not have to pay yet
  • You normally do not incur the costs, but must be incurred due to a special (medical or social) situation
  • You cannot pay the costs and you have not been able to save to pay the costs
  • You cannot pay the costs in installments
  • You have first tried all other options to get the costs reimbursed, for example reimbursement by your insurance. Sometimes you need a rejection from another scheme or from the insurer before you apply the municipality can apply for.
  • You can apply for special assistance before you incur the costs
  • You will incur the costs in the Netherlands
  • You have an income (the money you earn) up to 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you
    • If your income is higher, you may be able to receive a smaller allowance. The municipality calculates your carrying capacity for this. This is the amount you have to pay yourself
  • You do not have more assets (your total assets) than the power limit. Examples of assets are savings, a car and an owner-occupied home. We also look at the assets of your partner and children aged 17 and younger
  • For administration costs, the income limit is 110%

how much money do i get

  • How much money you can get depends on your situation, income and assets. The municipality makes a calculation for this
