Students often have a part-time job to pay for their studies. If you have a disability or chronic illness, it is more difficult to earn extra income. Then you may be able to receive extra money. We call this individual study allowance. This is a maximum of €352,80 per month.
What do you need to know
- You have a disability (physical, mental and/or psychological)
- You will receive a student grant in accordance with the Student Finance Act (WSF2000) or you will receive a reimbursement in accordance with the Education Contribution and School Expenses Allowance Act (WTOS).
- You are registered with the municipality of Hilversum
- You will not receive a Wajong benefit
- You cannot earn extra during your studies
- How much money you get, depends on your age. You will receive a maximum of €352,80 per month
- The individual study allowance is not a loan that you have to repay. You can keep the money
Terms & conditions
If you receive the individual study allowance, please note the following:
- If you receive an internship allowance, please let us know. You may keep a maximum of €211,67 per month. If your internship allowance is higher, we will deduct this from the study allowance. With an internship allowance of € 220 per month, you will receive € 8,33 less study allowance per month
- If you start working while you are receiving a study allowance, we will stop the study allowance. Notify us in time when you can start working. Otherwise you may have to repay the study allowance

- Copy of valid ID. Note: no driver's license
- Evidence that you receive a student grant from DUO or that you receive money from the WTOS
- Contract or agreement stating how much internship allowance you will receive
- Data showing that you cannot earn additional income in addition to your studies. For example, proof that you are in the target group register of the UWV. Or proof that you have attended secondary special education (VSO) or practical education (PRO). If you do not have such information, you will be given a medical examination by a doctor. The municipality arranges this
After your request
- Once you have submitted the application form and all the requested documents, the municipality will make a decision as soon as possible. This will take up to 8 weeks
- You will receive a letter with the decision. It states whether you will receive money and if so, how much
- If you do not agree with the decision, you can contact the person who assessed your application
- You can also directly to object against a decision of the municipality
