You have had an income of up to 3% of the social assistance standard that applies to you for at least 130 years. Then you may be able to get extra money. This is called individual income supplement. You can decide for yourself what you spend this money on.
What do you need to know
- You are 21 years or older
- You will not receive an AOW yet
- You do not have more assets (your total assets) than the power limit† Examples of wealth are savings, a car and an owner-occupied home
- You have been living on a minimum income for 3 years or longer. And your income does not exceed 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you
- If you have not lived in the Netherlands for the entire period 3 years before application, you are not entitled to an income supplement
- It is not expected that your income will increase. The municipality checks this
- You can show that you have tried to increase your income in the past period. Or you can prove that a disability has prevented you from looking for work
- You have not received an individual income supplement in the past 12 months. You may apply for the individual income supplement once every 1 months
- If you receive a benefit from the PW, IOAW or IOAZ, you have met all obligations in the past 3 years and you have not received any measures
- You are not entitled to a student grant under the WSF2000 or a reimbursement under the WTOS. If you do, you can use the apply for a study allowance for a disability

These are the amounts from 2024. These amounts change every year and differ per municipality.

What do you have to do
- You will not receive social assistance benefits and you are applying for the first time: Application form no benefit (pdf, 382)

- You are on assistance: Assistance application form (pdf, 284 kB). You use the same form, whether you are applying for the first time or have already received an individual income allowance before

If you are on social assistance and make a follow-up application, you do not need to send anything.
If you are not on social assistance and are applying, please enclose the documents stated on the application form.
After your request
- Once you have submitted the application form and all the requested documents, the municipality will make a decision as soon as possible. This will take up to 8 weeks
- You will receive a letter with the decision. It states whether you will receive money and if so, how much
- If you do not agree with the decision, you can contact the person who assessed your application
- You can also directly to object against a decision of the municipality
