You have a low income or benefits. From the activation scheme you can receive a maximum of €280 each year for sports, outings, your identity card or telephone subscription.
What do you need to know
- The activation scheme (money to participate in society) is a minimum income scheme (money agreements for people with low incomes). This scheme allows you to participate in social, sporting, and cultural activities.
- You are 18 years or older
- You have an income (salary) up to 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you
- You do not have more assets (your total assets) than the power limitExamples of assets include savings, a car and crypto coins.
- You can get a maximum of € 280
- We look at the costs that you have actually incurred. So keep your receipts or bills safe. We can ask for this
- The activation scheme applies for a period of 12 months. This always runs from July 1 to June 30
- You can apply all year round
- You must have submitted the application for the 30 months that have just passed by June 12th at the latest
- If you apply on July 1 or after, it will be for the next 12 months
- You must submit a new (repeat) application every year. That doesn't happen automatically
- Residents with social assistance benefits who have previously received an activation scheme do not need to submit a new application. They will automatically receive the activation scheme annually. If the social assistance benefit stops, the payment of the activation scheme will also stop.
What is the activation scheme for?
There are many activities you can do. A few examples:
- Sports: fitness, football, tennis, zumba, and so on
- Creative course: painting, singing, musical instrument
- Performance: theater, musical, music performance, dance performance
- Museum year card
- Subscription library
- Travel costs: NS subscription Dal Voordeel, subscription for the bus, metro or tram, public transport credit for a personal public transport chip card
- Identity document: an identity card or passport, including passport photo
- Telephone and internet subscription
- Purchase of a digital device (smartphone, tablet, laptop, computer)

Applying for social assistance benefits
without partner
- You fill it application form for the activation scheme in. You need your DigiD for this
- Or you can apply for the activation scheme via your consultant (contact person at the municipality)
With partner
If you live with a partner, you must submit the application together. One person makes the application, the other person completes an authorization form. You need your DigiD for this.

- An overview of your income of the last 3 months, such as pay slips, benefit specifications and alimony
- An overview of your assets and debts as complete as possible
- If you are in an amicable or legal debt process, please send proof of this
- Copy of statements of all your bank and savings accounts for the last 2 months. Also from your minor children
After your request
- Once you have submitted the application form and all the requested documents, the municipality will make a decision as soon as possible. This will take up to 8 weeks
- You will receive a letter with the decision. It states whether you will receive money and if so, how much
- If you do not agree with the decision, you can contact the person who assessed your application
- You can also directly to object against a decision of the municipality
