Extra money for chronically ill and disabled people

If you have a chronic illness or disability, you often incur additional healthcare costs. Some costs are not covered by health insurance. For example, your travel costs to the hospital. The Allowance for the chronically ill and disabled reimburses a maximum of € 500 of these extra costs each year.

What do you need to know

  • You have a chronic illness or disability
  • Due to your illness or disability you incur extra healthcare costs that are not reimbursed by the health insurer
    • We do not look at your own health insurance, but at the group health insurance which you can take out through the municipality of Hilversum if you have a low income. We will then look at the Basic insurance + AV Standard package
  • The costs are made in the Netherlands
  • The costs are necessary. Sometimes a doctor or other expert must determine that necessity
  • You have an income of up to 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you
  • You have no more power than the power limit† An example of wealth is savings
  • You first tried all other options to get the costs reimbursed, for example with your health insurance
  • You can get a maximum of €500 per person per year
  • You must have submitted the application for the 31 months that have just passed by 12 December at the latest
  • Only actual costs incurred will be reimbursed
