Your driver's license has expired. Or you want to have a category added. Then you can apply for a new driving license online at the RDW. You no longer have to come to the city office in person. If you collect your new driving licence, you will do so in person at the counter of the city office. You make an appointment for this.
What do you need to know
Arrange online
- You need a digital passport photo. You can have these made anywhere in the Netherlands.
- You also sign with the photographer. This signature will be on your new driver's license. The photographer sends your photo and signature digitally and securely to the RDW
- You will receive an e-mail from the RDW whether you can apply for your driving license online and again when your driving license is ready
- You make an appointment to collect your driver's license at the City Office
Extend driver's license
- You must replace your driver's license within 3 years if you get an extra category of driver's license
- A health certificate is required for some categories
What do you have to do
- Have a digital passport photo taken. See the website of the RDW an overview of recognized photographers. Bring your current driver's license to the photographer
- At the RDW apply for your driver's license online. Log in with the DigiD and pay with iDEAL
- You will receive an e-mail from the RDW when your driving license is ready. Make an appointment to collect your driver's license before you come by
