First driver's license or driver's license exchange

What do you need to know

• You can apply for your first driving license in person at the counter of the Municipal Office
• You make an appointment for this
• After 5 working days you can pick up your driver's license in person

Not yet 18 years old

Then ask first companion pass Register with the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority) before applying for a driver's license (category B). You do not need to bring your driver's pass to the municipality.

Urgent request

• Apply for the driving license before 14.00 p.m. and use the urgent application
• You can pick up your driver's license after 2 working days from 11.00 a.m
• You have to pay more for an urgent request

Exchange foreign driver's license

• you can your exchange foreign driver's license
• The costs are the same as a new driver's license
• An urgent request is not possible

What do you have to do

Pack

• Your valid foreign driver's license
• Valid ID
• 1 passport photo (colour photo) not older than 6 months
• Valid residence permit (not necessary if you come from a country of the EC, EEA or Switzerland)
• Money (pin or cash)
• If you need it or already have it:
  • Declaration of suitability, also known as health certificate named 
  • Letter 30 percent scheme, also known as expat scheme named

Pick up

• To collect your driver's license, you make a Appointment. Please bring your appointment confirmation with you when you pick up. You can use the paper version or the pick-up message on your phone
• You must pick up your new driver's license at the City Office within 3 months
• After 3 months we must destroy your driver's license. You will then not get your money back
