You want Dutch nationality. This may be possible because one of your parents is a Dutch citizen (according to the law). Or by option or naturalization. The municipality can look at your options for you.
What do you need to know
- If you want to become a Dutch citizen through naturalization, you must meet certain conditions. For explanation and examples, look at the website of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND)† Your application will be processed by the IND
- There is a quick way to become a Dutch citizen through the municipality. This is called the option procedure. Not everyone can follow the option procedure. read about Becoming Dutch by option
- With option and naturalization you will have the same rights and obligations as Dutch nationals
Children under 18 years
- Your child under the age of 18 can become a Dutch citizen together with you
- Your child must be living in the Netherlands at the time of the application and must have a valid residence permit
