Parking control with the scan car

The municipality uses the scan car to check whether parking fees have been paid. The car drives through the street and scans the license plates of parked cars in places where parking is permitted.

  • If someone has not paid, enforcement officers will check whether a parking ticket is justified. This way there is always a human check
  • There is a small delay between scanning the license plate and the check. We do this so that people who were just paying, or who are loading and unloading, do not get a fine
  • A scan car can check more cars than enforcement officers on foot. This way we ensure that everyone pays for parking and that parking nuisance decreases
  • Due to the increased chance of a fine, more people will pay for their parking space and adhere better to the parking rules. That is fair to the motorists who do pay for parking and adhere to the rules

The municipality has one scanning car that is active seven days a week. This car drives through the areas with paid parking every day and regularly checks all parking spaces at different times.

Parking with a Disabled Parking Card and the scan car

  • In Hilversum, you can park in regular parking spaces with the Digital Disabled Parking Card (GPK) from Parkeren Plus.
  • The physical disabled parking permit (GPK) is used in a disabled parking space.
  • A scanning vehicle cannot immediately determine whether a car is permitted to park in a disabled parking space. Therefore, we carry out a manual check to ensure that individuals do not receive an unjustified fine.

Parking with a GPK and blue parking disc

With a Digital GPK, you may park for free without time limit in paid parking spaces. You can park for 3 hours with a GPK in areas where parking is normally prohibited. You must also use a blue parking disc and set it correctly. You can find more information about the GPK under Parkeerservice.

Privacy

We take various measures to protect your privacy. 

  • The scanning car is used exclusively for checking parking fee payments
  • People visible on the scan car photos are made unrecognizable. If it turns out that you have paid or have a valid permit, the license plate and the photos taken are deleted immediately 
  • If a parking ticket is issued, the photos taken are anonymized and only stored for as long as legally necessary. This is necessary, for example, to assess an objection to a fine
  • The anonymized photos and data are stored securely in our database

What do you have to do

  • You can pay for parking at the payment machines on the street or via a parking app on your phone. areas where paid parking applies 
  • Under certain conditions you can apply for parking permit, for example if you live in a paid parking area
  • Visitors can use the visitor permit of the person they are visiting

Parking ticket

  • If you have not paid parking fees or do not have a valid permit, you will receive a parking fine at your address within two weeks.
  • The fine is sent by the Parking Service Cooperative on behalf of the municipality
