You can register a stillborn child in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP). That is not mandatory. You make an appointment for this. The only condition is that you live or will live in the Netherlands at the time of the application.
What do you need to know
- You can only do this for yourself and not for another parent. Your child will only be added to your personal list in the BRP
- If the other parent also wants to register the child, this parent must submit an application themselves
If your child was born stillless
- You can always submit an application for registration of your stillborn child. So it doesn't matter how long ago your child was born
- You may still have the birth registration must do in the municipality of birth. You can register in the BRP after this declaration, but you do not have to
- After registration, the data about your child can only be viewed by you (for example via Mijnoverheid.nl). And for the Civil Servant
- You can register at the reception of the municipality. You make an appointment for this
If your child lived shortly after birth
- The municipality normally automatically registers your child in the BRP. The municipality does this after drawing up the birth and death certificate. So you don't have to do anything for this
- If it has been a long time since your child had a short life, you can still register your child in the BRP
- You can register at the reception of the municipality. You make an appointment for this
