If you want to register a death yourself, you can do so in the municipality where the death occurred. You must make an appointment for this. As a funeral director, you can also use e-recognition to digitally report a death and body finding.
What do you need to know
- You must register a death in the municipality where the person died. That municipality will pass this on to the municipality where the deceased person lived
- The death must be registered within 6 working days after the death. Usually the funeral director does this

- Valid ID
- Certificate of death (from a doctor)
- Closed envelope B containing information about the cause of death. You will receive this from the doctor
- If you want: marriage certificate of the deceased (for updating information)
Do you want your stillborn baby is mentioned with your data in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP)? Then you can request this with a registration of your stillborn child.
