The current municipal council members' terms will automatically be extended until January 1, 2027. That's the date the reorganization becomes official. The municipality of Wijdemeren will then become part of the municipality of Hilversum.
The Hilversum municipal executive will govern the new municipality from January 1, 2027, until a new executive is formed from a new coalition following the reorganization elections.
Preparing for municipal council elections
Preparations for the candidacy process, which is now slowly underway in all other municipalities in the Netherlands, will begin in our country about six months later. The countdown calendar with all the dates and associated activities is in development and is expected to follow in January 2026.
