What do you need to know
Assessment of your application
After completing the application form, the neighborhood manager will review your request. Sometimes a location is not suitable. For example, due to underground cables and pipes or traffic safety concerns. You will always receive an explanation if your request cannot proceed. Has your application been approved? Then you can go to the Sustainability Center pick up an information package with handy tips and flower seeds. Hilversum100, the network of sustainable doers, can give you advice.
Receive a plant voucher
Is your front garden between 2 and 5 m² in size? Then you will receive a one-time plant voucher from us. With this voucher, you can purchase plants yourself from local nurseries.
Construction and execution
The municipality is adjusting the paving for a facade garden or the enlargement of a tree mirrorWe do this twice a year: in the spring and in the autumn. You will be notified when it is your turn for your application.
We place a clear marking at the facade garden or tree mirrorThis way, our managers know that you maintain the greenery and they skip this spot.
What do you have to do
You take care of the maintenance yourself. This can also be done together with your neighbors.
Terms & conditions
- Plant only plants and flowers, preferably native species. No trees or large shrubs. Near a tree, you may not place climbing plants that climb into the tree.
- You may raise the soil around a tree by a maximum of 5 centimeters.
- You may not place a bench, fence, or other objects. Raised planters, concrete curbs, or planks around the base of the tree or in a facade garden are not permitted.
- Make sure you do not damage tree roots.
- Cables and pipes may be buried in the ground at a depth of 30 cm. Be careful not to hit them.
- Sometimes underground cables or pipes need to be repaired or replaced. Utility companies must always be able to carry out their work. This may result in damage to your plants, or it may be necessary to remove them. The municipality is not liable for this.
- Sometimes it is necessary to remove and replace trees. This may result in damage to your vegetation. Alternatively, it may be necessary to remove the vegetation. The municipality is not liable for this.
- Ensure that the sidewalk and the public road remain easily accessible; at least 90 centimeters must remain for wheelchair users and strollers, among others. The municipality determines whether an adjustment to the sidewalk is possible or not.
- Clean up pruning waste and litter in/around your initiative yourself.
- You may not use chemical pesticides when removing weeds.
- The municipality does not carry out maintenance at the site of your initiative.
- The municipality remains the owner of the land. The municipality can the facade garden or tree mirror to resume management or restore to its original state. This happens if you indicate that you are no longer able to manage the property, if the location is neglected, or if it causes a nuisance.
