What do you need to know
- People with confused behavior are people who (almost) lose control of their lives. As a result, there is a risk that they harm themselves or others or cause damage
- Most of the time, people with confused behavior have lost hope. For example, due to social problems, addiction, dementia, psychiatric problems or a (mild) intellectual disability
- Confused behavior can cause various problems. For example, that people neglect their home and garden, no longer leave their home or cause nuisance by making noise in the middle of the night.
- Family and neighbors are often the first to notice that something is not right. It is important to report this as soon as possible before it gets worse. Because nasty consequences of confused behavior are, for example, loneliness, debts, being evicted and losing a job
Confused behavior always looks different. A few examples:
- Someone is wearing dirty clothes or clothes from another season
- Someone is always restless or nervous
- Someone always closes the curtains
- Someone hangs out a lot or doesn't come out anymore
- Someone talks to themselves or says things you don't understand
- Someone has a lot of garbage in or around the house
- Someone uses drugs or drinks a lot of alcohol
