A speech therapist works from the municipality in primary schools. With the permission of the parents, the speech therapist checks how a child is talking and understanding. The speech therapist can also examine younger children (2-4 year olds).
What do you need to know
Good speech and language development is important. For the development of a child and for proper education. Learning disabilities are prevented by early detection of:
- speech problems
- language problems
- hearing problems
- wrong mouth habit
Speech therapy 5 year olds
- The speech therapist does a short examination (screening) at school
- The speech therapist discusses the result with the teacher and with the parents
- Parents will receive the results by email. Possibly also with brochures or practice packages
- If necessary, the speech therapist will send a child for speech therapy
- There is no treatment at school
Speech therapy 2-4 year olds
- If employees of the child health center or childcare have doubts about the speech or language development of children, they can register a child for an examination
- The speech therapist contacts the parents
- Parents will receive the results by email. Possibly also with brochures or practice packages
