You have an illness or disability. That is why you need childcare. But you are not entitled to childcare allowance from the Tax Authorities. In that case, the municipality may pay (part of) the childcare for you. This is called Special assistance for childcare on the basis of socio-medical indication.

  • You can also make an application if you are temporarily ill or are still getting better
  • Childcare is day care (children 0 to 4 years) and out-of-school care (children 4 to 12 years). This can also be a nanny

Terms & conditions

  • You need childcare because you, your partner and/or your child have an illness or a physical or mental disability
  • Childcare is necessary for a good and healthy development of your child
  • you don't have right to childcare allowance

how much money do i get

  • If you have a family income of up to 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you, then the municipality will reimburse the entire bill for the childcare
  • If you earn more than 130% of the social assistance standard that applies to you, you will also pay a part yourself. This is called an income-related personal contribution. For this we use the calculation of the childcare allowance that the tax authorities also use

What do you have to do

  1. Make an appointment: You need proof that you need childcare. This is called a statement for a social medical indication. You can get these from the consultation bureau or a youth counselor of the Social Square. You make an appointment for this. Go to where they know you and your child best. You can make an appointment with a youth counselor by calling 14 035
  2. Have a conversation: During the appointment you explain why you need childcare. The doctor, nurse or consultant determines whether they agree. Together you discuss how many hours per week you need childcare. When you receive the statement, you will also receive other forms that are necessary to make an application
  3. Collecting documents: A complete application consists of:
    • The signed 'statement of social medical indication'
    • The completed application form 'Contribution to the costs of childcare on the basis of a social medical indication'. You will receive this form after the interview and you can fill it in yourself
    • Copy of a valid ID. Note: no driver's license
    • A quote or contract from the childcare that states how many hours a week your child goes to childcare and how much that costs
    • Copy of statements of all your bank and savings accounts for the last 2 months. Also from your minor children
    • Overview of your income for the last 3 months. Also from your partner. Such as copies of pay slips from your employer or benefit specifications from the UWV. This is not necessary if you receive social assistance benefits
  4. Make an application: The application form states where you can send all the documents. This is via email

After your request

  • Once you have submitted the application form and all the requested documents, the municipality will make a decision as soon as possible. This will take up to 8 weeks
  • You will receive a letter with the decision. It states whether you will receive money and if so, how much
  • If you do not agree with the decision, you can contact the person who assessed your application
  • You can also directly to object against a decision of the municipality
