There are important reasons to leave leaves in your garden:
- Hedgehogs, insects and other garden animals hibernate among the leaves
- Leaves are food for worms, insects and many micro-organisms. These animals provide a better soil
- Protects plants from frost
- Leaves are converted into nutrients for the soil and ensure that the soil retains water better
- Leaves are the basis of compost
Leaf on grass or tiles
Leaves on the lawn and in your walkway or driveway should not be left behind. The lawn can suffocate under the leaves and walkways can become slippery when it rains. Leaves on your tiles or lawn can be collected in a corner of the garden or in a compost bin and left to decompose into compost. You can use the compost later in the garden to improve the soil.
Putting leaves on the road
Garden leaves may be placed on the road according to the schedule. The municipality collects these leaves in the fall, along with the leaves swept from streets and bike paths. Please note: do not place leaves on the bike path. The schedule below shows exactly when your street is due.
