What the Environmental Act means

The law concerns everything that has to do with changes in the environment where you live, work or play sports. You will have to deal with the Environmental Act if, for example, you want to renovate your house, cut down a tree or start a business or community center somewhere. The new law merges previous laws and makes the rules for construction or renovation easier.

What do you need to know

The environmental law:

  • Covers themes such as:
    • Building and cultural heritage
    • Environment and sustainability
    • Water and soil
    • Nature and health
    • Sport and movement
  • Consists of the important parts:
  • Has rules about coming up with ideas and developments together. We call this participation. To help you, we have written 'Engage the environment'
  • Has 1 central place for information and permit applications: The Environmental Desk. There you can:
    • See whether a permit or notification is required for your (construction) project
    • Start a permit application or submit a report
    • See which national and local rules apply in a particular location
    • Get an overview of your requests and notifications
