Introduction
I am Atie van de Beek, council member for Hilversum Democrats. I am proud to represent the interests of the residents of Hilversum in the Hilversum city council. I was born in 1975 in Hilversum south, and grew up 'over the railway'. Now I live in the center of Hilversum. I enjoy our garden city. I feel like a real Hilversum summer and like to go to the village or visit the market. My connection with Hilversum and the Hilversummers runs deep. I enjoy recreation and culture in Hilversum, these facilities are important for “our Hilversum”. This is also of paramount importance to Democrats Hilversum. My job, besides being a council member, is in healthcare. I do this with commitment and full motivation; it gives me a lot of energy. In addition to being a care worker, I also do volunteer work in the social field and support Hilversum residents in various ways. I am a real 'people person': from individually involved to a team player. People can expect involvement, accessibility and commitment from me. These are the keywords that apply to me.
Motivation
I want Hilversum to remain a garden city, where we build for the future and where there is respect for nature, so that we can safely pass on this unique place to future generations. I wish Hilversum to remain a beautiful, resilient place to live. A place with good housing, employment, proper connections, with sufficient greenery, peace and space. That Hilversum is a home for its inhabitants and where participation is a habit. Where there is a fight against inequality of opportunity and it does not matter where your cradle is or has been. That education, sport and recreation are accessible to everyone. That newcomers feel wanted, integrate smoothly and are part of our Hilversum society. As a care worker, I am at the center of society and see the 'face' behind the care. I also encounter poverty. I especially want to dedicate myself to this group. I stand for politics where it is not just about numbers, but where people, as individuals, are central within an inclusive society in which everyone is treated equally. Participation and being close to the citizen are aspects that really appeal to me. Politics is not only in the town hall, but lives in the districts and neighbourhoods, not to mention behind the front door. I would like to hear from you what input I can take with me in the council work and hope that I will connect with you in this way and will be retained.
